Financial Wellness
Many people opening gloat about ‘not caring about money’ since in our society being or wanting to be ‘rich’ is often associated with someone greedy, shallow and selfish. The ‘filthy rich’ conjures an image of someone that is driving around in a fancy car, living in a McMansion and barking orders at everyone else. If you have the belief that creating wealth or wanting to be rich will make you a ‘bad’ person, you will unintentionally repel money and sabotage your journey to wealth.
I believe that money will amplify rather than change who you already are - if you are a generous person then you will be even more generous.
That is why I like to think of managing and caring for your money as financial wellness. It is not about doing whatever it takes to amass as much money as possible. It is looking after your money so that you can use it as a tool to live well.
Here is my definition of what financial wellness is (and what it is not):
It is not scrimping and giving up everything that you love in order to save as much as you can
It is freedom from stress and worry about money
It is taking control of your money, not hiding from it
It is a balance of enjoying your life now whilst also planning, saving and investing for the future
It is the ability to spending your money guilt free on the things you love, knowing that you have already saved and invested for the future
