How to repeat an outfit without caring.

According to Forbes, in 1930, the average American woman owned nine outfits. Today, that figure is 30 outfits - one for every day of the month.

Let's be honest - humans are social creatures and it is hard wired into us to want to be accepted by our peers. However as part of embracing a capsule wardrobe, I have learned to care less about what people will think about my repeat outfits. Obviously there are tricks on making repeats less noticable (i.e. wearing more neutral colours, less memorable styles, styling them in different ways and wearing different assessories).

However, I like the idea of shifting our mindset to not apologizing for outfit repeats, to not promoting the societal expectation that repeat outfits are taboo or something to be ashamed of - and actually celebrating and rocking our repeat outfits with pride!

Okay ladies and gents - if you feel awkward about repeating an outfit below are some mindset shifts that may help:

  • most people are too occupied with themselves to notice in detail what you are wearing (let’s be honest - can you recall every outfit that your co-worker wore last week?)

  • fast fashion is wasteful and pretty bad for the planet

  • if you have an outfit you love, why wouldn't you wear it more often?

  • you can buy better quality if you own less

  • your cost per wear decreases every time you wear an item/outfit

Here’s to celebrating and rocking our repeats! xx
